Piedmont Master Gardeners Web Site
Summer 2014

In 2014 I led the redesign of the Piedmont Master Gardeners Web site. The new site features large-scale photographs I took in my own garden.

The brief was to design a site that was clean, eye-catching and provided easy navigation for users looking for gardening information and events. The site also needed to function as a recruitment tool for future Piedmont Master Gardener volunteers.

This garden is designed according to the tenants of William Robinson, who published his influential The English Garden in 1883, and his friend Gertrude Jekyll who was at that time in the early years of her design practice. Jekyll published Colour in the Flower Garden in 1902, a book that had its genesis in an article she wrote for Robinson's The Garden magazine in 1892.

This design features plants that would have been available between 1870 and 1900 and were endorsed by Robinson and Jekyll in their writings. Specific cultivars were sourced by researching antique plant nursery catalogues from that era.
